GENEVA - An officer was shot and a Kane County inmate is dead after a hostage situation Saturday at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva. He couldn't release details about why Salters was hospitalized, citing federal privacy laws, he said.
The standoff had been contained to one section of the emergency room as of late afternoon, when SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were called to the scene.
Lt Gengler said there have been no reports of injuries. The main hospital was put on lockdown and all operations were normal, except no visitors were allowed.
Hospital staff and paramedics have ambulances ready to transport anyone who comes to the hospital requiring emergency attention, according to the city's statement.
