Tottenham will play its home games at iconic Wembley Stadium here next season before moving to a new 61,000-seat stadium that is scheduled to open for the 2018-2019 season.

He said: "We kind of expected it, but when the fans came on it was just about trying to find your way to the tunnel and everyone is trying to get your shirt and kissing you and hugging you. We've been third and second so hopefully we can be first next year".

The Tottenham captain also took time to congratulate Harry Kane for his goal against Manchester United, which will stand as the club's last one at White Hart Lane, because the striker "represents the future of the club".

The farewell ceremony began with a history of White Hart Lane narrated by Tottenham fan Sir Kenneth Branagh and finished with Pochettino and his players performing a lap of honour.

Tottenham locked down second place by beating Manchester United 2-1 in its final game before leaving its north London home of 118 years.

"Because of my respect for them (Tottenham), I didn't rest more people", said Mourinho, whose side visit Southampton on Wednesday.

"We're disappointed after losing out on the title again, but we're growing and getting better".

"I don't want to think about next season - I want to think about the final we have to play in". I am not too anxious about moving and I don't think the other players are too anxious either.

"After 2-0 we were brought some balance to the team because we put players in the right positions, the team imp a lot, we had 2-1, could have had 2-2".

"I hope Sunday will be the most special day in the last three seasons".
