Mike Pence reportedly hires private attorney to help with Russian Federation probe

Vice President Mike Pence is stopping into Miami Thursday to talk about Central America's future.

Mike Pence has hired McGuireWoods' Richard Cullen as outside legal counsel to handle inquiries related to the special counsel investigation into Russian efforts to interfere with the 2016 election, NBC News has confirmed.

Trump hired his own personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, a week ago, and he has been hard at work defending the president with factually inaccurate statements.

"The vice president is focused entirely on his duties and promoting the president's agenda and looks forward to a swift conclusion of this matter", the statement reads. Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, misled Pence about his contacts with Russian officials - Pence then repeated the incorrect claims publicly.

Supreme Court, as it has already done with a ruling against the travel ban by another appeals court last month. He too faced some hard questioning, including queries on whether the lower-court decision was too broad.

An aide tells NPR the decision to hire an outside lawyer has been under consideration for weeks, and Pence chose to go forward with it earlier this week.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump called the probe a "witch hunt" on Twitter. He has defended large corporations in Department of Justice investigations, and served as Virginia's attorney general in the late 1990s.

Pence, who after the election served as head of Trump's White House transition team, has stood by Trump's assertion that there are no ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Mueller is investigating whether anyone on Trump's campaign, or associated with it, with him or any of his businesses, may have had any illegal dealings with Russian officials or others with ties to the Kremlin, said one USA official familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Pence's outside counsel selection process has been going on for weeks, and there was no singular event that prompted his decision to hire an outside lawyer. Of course, as a public servent, Pence's salary has been paid for by taxpayers for years but I suppose we're just splitting hairs at that point.
