Ange Postecoglu Admits Germany Was Too Good Against Socceroos

SOCCEROOS defender Milos Degenek insists belief in the squad is such that they will begin their Confederations Cup campaign with overall victory the unapologetic aim. And while the players might cross into the fantasy world across the road to try the extreme rides, they can't afford to ease up on the pitch if they are to return to Russian Federation.

"It's disappointing, we were barely clinging on in the first half", admitted Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou.

"That's why I believe that this Confed Cup is incredibly important".

"But we have a duty to win the three points".

"Just as we did before Brazil and South Africa, we'll brief the squad, but we must not forget we are guests in Russian Federation and football should not be expected to overcome problems and grievances".

Germany vs Australia will be played at 4 pm WET as the last game of the first round for the group stages of the Confederations Cup.

"Because we want to continue to evolve as a team and we want to do well here", he said. However, Australia have always performed well in their previous matches against Germany.

Australia began to dictate the tempo of the game after reducing the deficit and substitute James Troisi curled an effort towards goal but couldn't get enough power on his shot as Leno saved. That being said, this seems like a game to much for Australia and I think that they will be comfortably beaten by the Germans.

The Queen's Birthday Honours list has been published - and it only includes three names from the world of United Kingdom tech. Dick Greenwood, the former England flanker and coach, also receives an OBE for services to national and global rugby.

Germany could have been out of sight before the half-hour mark as they constantly unlocked a pass-orientated back three their visitors looked vulnerable in.

"They were very good in the first half".

The only Premier League involvement in Joachim Loew's side will be in the shape of Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi and Liverpool's Emre Can.

Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Marco Reus and Mesut Ozil are just some of their regulars to have been left at home but Hoffenheim forward Sandro Wagner should be full of confidence following his hat trick against San Marino last weekend.

Whatever Postecoglou's attitude, the criticism will become more pronounced if the Socceroos can not manage a creditable display against an inexperienced Germany.

Cahill says he expects to face a team up for the challenge but carrying the weight of expectation that comes with representing the football powerhouse.

Portugal looked set for a late win when Cedric Soares scored with a deflected shot in the 86th minute, but Hector Moreno equalized for Mexico with a header in stoppage time.

The entire Socceroos squad took part in their opening training session, though Robbie Kruse did some light work separate from the rest of the squad as a precaution after picking up a minor knock against Brazil match.
