The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) said that two of its tanks were targeted by an Israeli aircraft in northern Golan.

The military says the projectiles landed in an open area and there were no injuries.

On Sunday, the IDF sent a complaint about the errant fire into Israeli territory to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), responsible for maintaining the ceasefire and disengagement agreement between Israeli and Syrian forces since 1974.

On Saturday, Israel noted that the action by its aviation was aimed at positions of the Syrian army in response to the projectiles that hit the occupied zone in the Golan Heights.

The Syrian state news agency quoted Syrian army officials as saying that a number of people had died as a result of the strike.

Israel annexed a large part of the Golan Heights after capturing it from Syria in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed the territory in a move not recognized by the worldwide community.

Intense fighting has rocked the Quneitra province of Syria, adjacent to the Golan Heights, since rebels there launched an attack on Saturday.
