Bayern Munich and Chile star Arturo Vidal has stirred up a war of words with Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo before the pair meet in the Confederations Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, calling the Real Madrid man a "smartass".

Ronaldo opened scoring from the spot in the 33rd minute, as the European champions qualified for the last four.

It remains a record across the continent to this day.

And things wont get any easier for the South American champions when they face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the semifinals.

He bagged a brace against Latvia on the road to Russian Federation 2018, before finding the target against Russian Federation and New Zealand at the Confederations Cup.

Vidal spoke to reporters in Moscow on Sunday after Chile's 1-1 draw against Australia in the Confederations Cup, which set up a semifinal clash against Ronaldo's Portugal.

"He played an fantastic season in Spain and I think he is playing here with the same strength".

Ronaldo had already headed against the crossbar before firing Portugal ahead after Danilo went tumbling under a challenge from two defenders and the referee pointed to the spot without asking for a video replay.

Oracle then staged one of the biggest comebacks in sports, winning eight straight races to retain the Auld Mug. In the meantime, Foley had the same celebration plans as many other New Zealanders: a hearty breakfast.

Chile midfielder Marcelo Diaz, who has often faced Ronaldo with his club Celta Vigo, said yesterday: "We all know he (Ronaldo) is an wonderful player, he's very unsafe and can decide a game alone". "We're talking about one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with an extraordinary career, and we're very happy that he's back with us".

Celta Vigo midfielder Marcelo Diaz, who has faced Ronaldo in LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, added: "We all know he's an incredible player, very unsafe, and he can decide a game on his own".

Portugal and Mexico booked their own places in the semi-finals, coming up on top in Group A.

"I thought we played well in many parts of the game; in others, not so well".

Head coach Fernando Santos opted to rest none of his forward line and it has been a long season for the likes of Ronaldo, Joao Moutinho, Andre Gomes and Bernardo Silva.

"We will look to exploit those tomorrow". Their strengths are many but, like any team, they have weaknesses.

Vidal, meanwhile, won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich last term, and produced some excellent displays as he registered a pass accuracy of 88% while making an average of three defensive actions per game.
