The music category saw Pritam winning the Best Music Direction for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Amitabh Bhattacharya bagging the Best Lyrics accolade for Channa mereya.

Three-day celebration of Indian cinema, the 18th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards, was held in NY on from July 13 to July 15.

Best picture went to Neerja, a thriller based on the true story of a purser who helped save the lives of more than 350 passengers when Libyan-backed hijackers stormed Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1986.

Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were named Best Actors at the 18th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards for their brilliant performance in 2016 movie Udta Punjab on Saturday. Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon wooed the audience with their crackling chemistry as they jived to retro tracks.

Moreover, Shahid and Alia deserved to be the best actor and actress as they have done the most challenging roles of their career in the film.

Katrina Kaif caused a storm on stage with her pulsating performance and Salman Khan danced away to songs from Tubelight.

Best Actor in a comic role: Varun Dhawan for Dishoom.

Rounding up the trio of serious- minded films was Pink, a movie about sexual violence against women, which got Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury the Best Director award.

Varun, later took to the stage for his solo performance, during which he paid a tribute to his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, who completed 30 years in the film industry.
