Evacuation orders for the small community of 2,000 in Mariposa, southwest of the world-renowned Yosemite National Park, went into effect on Tuesday evening.

Statewide, about 6,000 firefighters were battling 17 large wildfires, including about 2,200 at the fire near Yosemite.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The flames have exploded in size, and are burning through the foothills- people are now being evacuated from Mariposa.

The official said forward villages including Kalsian, Sair, Bahwani, Namb and Jhangar in Rajouri also came under heavy shelling. Another soldier, identified as Sepoy Jaspreet Singh, was killed in Pakistani shelling in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
