Evacuation orders for the small community of 2,000 in Mariposa, southwest of the world-renowned Yosemite National Park, went into effect on Tuesday evening.

Apart from Mariposa, other regions such as Hunters Valley, Bear Valley, Catheys Valley, Mormon Bar, Mount Bullion, Yaqui Gulch/Aqua Fria areas and Hornitos were also under threat, Cal Fire said. The 25,000-acre fire is also threatening an entire town- Mariposa.

Statewide, about 6,000 firefighters were battling 17 large wildfires, including about 2,200 at the fire near Yosemite.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The flames have exploded in size, and are burning through the foothills- people are now being evacuated from Mariposa.

The official said forward villages including Kalsian, Sair, Bahwani, Namb and Jhangar in Rajouri also came under heavy shelling. Another soldier, identified as Sepoy Jaspreet Singh, was killed in Pakistani shelling in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.

According to officials, The Northern California blaze is threatening at least 1,500 homes as well as power lines that provide electricity to the park.

A Cal Fire helicopter dumped a load of water around 7 p.m., but the fire continued to grow. 41 in Oakhurst. The Red Cross Evacuation Shelter is located at Cesar Chavez Junior High at 161 Plainsburg Rd.in Planada.

The fire raced down the mountain side in Mariposa on Tuesday, fueled by strong winds and hot, dry conditions.
