The unidentified attacker ran into an Edeka shop before stabbing multiple customers. Photos and videos showed a large number of emergency services, including a helicopter and heavily-armed police officers, at the scene.

There was no information immediately available about the dead person.

Early reports described his weapon as a "machete", but German police said it was likely a kitchen knife.
