Donald Trump has named John F Kelly as his new White House chief of staff after sacking Reince Priebus.

The president followed with tweets thanking Reince Priebus, who has served in the position since Trump's inauguration.

Priebus brought with Spicer, a former RNC official, with him to the White House.

Priebus had initially gotten into a van with White House policy adviser Stephen Miller and White House social media director Dan Scavino on the tarmac, but shortly after the two men left the van and left Priebus alone, according to the White House pool.

Priebus had worked against Scaramucci joining the administration when the NY hedge fund manager was first considered for an administration post and while the two attempted to put on a show of unity in Scaramucci's first days at the White House, it quickly became clear the two men would continue to be at odds with each other.

Priebus and Scaramucci have always been at odds.

Meanwhile, several damaging stories about Scaramucci have appeared in the press, and he blamed Priebus for a lot of them. Trump quickly added that Priebus has "done a great job".

Priebus tried to contain the tornado, getting Trump to agree to a pledge not to run third-party in the fall, if he lost the nomination. He channelled Priebus as he spoke: " 'Oh, Bill Shine is coming in. Priebus is close with House Speaker Paul Ryan, a fellow Wisconsinite.
