White House expected to name Nielsen new deputy chief of staff

President Trump tweeted this afternoon that he has named a new chief of staff. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly now takes that job. He's a great great American.

"John Kelly will do a fantastic job".

In a statement, Kelly said he is "honored" to be asked to serve as the chief of staff. And then in a third tweet the president writes, I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country. I support the president and I support John Kelly and the president's agenda.

"I can't think of a better person than General John Kelly to succeed me and I wish him God's blessings and great success".

"I think the president wanted to go a different direction", Priebus said.

Priebus' hold on the White House job has always been in question, more so this week after Trump's new communications director badmouthed him to a reporter for the New Yorker.

Priebus' appointment was announced alongside Steve Bannon's, the former Breitbart editor in chief who was appointed chief strategist. "I could not be more proud to call Reince a dear friend".

"Reince is a f***ing paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac", Mr Scaramucci told New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza.

The stand-off between India and China at Doklam has become a major issue of contention, with some experts fearing it could lead to a war.

The outgoing chief of staff's refusal to address Scaramucci's crude insults against him is telling, especially considering a small bit reported by the Wall Street Journal. The moved ended months of speculation about Priebus' fate and came among infighting and turmoil in the early stages of the Trump White House.

The supporters also said that Preibus had been given "an impossible job of managing a president who chafed at attempts to control his more rash impulses".

"They'll all be fired by me", he said Wednesday, according to a New Yorker report published Thursday.

The President has sounded out people recently about whether to keep Bannon, including some conservatives who convinced Trump that getting rid of Bannon would damage the President with his base, a person familiar with the conversation told CNN. "General Kelly has been a star".

Trump has placed a disciplined and respected military leader in one of the most important jobs in the White House. His resignation comes one week after White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer announced he will leave his post in August.

He said that he did not disclose the change to his staff, presiding over his regular morning meeting of senior staff and accompanying Trump to NY for a speech about efforts to stop the MS-13 street gang. "I've been obviously talking to the President for a few days about this. the President was great".
