Hunt for a Rajya Sabha seat from the Gujarat quota is increasingly becoming an uphill task for Congress marksman Ahmed Patel as dramatic scenes during voting and uncertainty over counting have reduced the whole process to a soap opera with open mudslinging over allegations of horse-trading by the Congress against the BJP.

The polls for three Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat have turned dramatic in an unprecedented way. "Wait for the result to come", said Ahmed Patel.

While Amit Shah is confident about his victory and debut in the House, Smriti Irani is contesting for the second term.

The Congress is also expecting to get the support of two MLAs of NCP and one MLA of JD (U).

Stating that he and Patel had been friends since 1977, the year he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time on a Janata Party ticket, the 77-year-old politician said, "We have been friends since then and we remain friends till now".

Meanwhile, BJP's national president Amit Shah on Monday held series of meetings at the party's State headquarters "Shri Kamalam" on the outskirts of Gandhinagar.

Sources in the BJP say, one of the ways to do it will be to buy out the Congress MLAs.

Congress lawmaker Karamsinh Makwana reportedly did not show his ballot paper to the polling agent, also fuelling speculation that he cross-voted.

Six Congress MLAs have already resigned while another six were not a part of the group that was shepherded to Bengaluru by the Patel camp. "I don't want to expose it". "But the Rajya Sabha election is an example of political game now", Patel told media here.
