Sony Rolling Out PS4 System Update 5.0 Beta

We recently reported about some of the new features that might be included in the next major software update for the PlayStation 4. In PS4 update 5.0, you'll finally be able to silence those annoying pop-ups while you're watching TV or movies.

Those who were chosen to participate in the PS4 firmware 5.0 beta should receive an email with instructions on how to download the update and get started. This new system will also make it easier to set up PlayStation Network accounts for kids and customize parental control settings. The firmware is now in beta testing, and it brings a wide variety of changes, not the least of which is a redesigned master and sub-account system that makes it easier for families to manage their accounts. As a new feature, all parental controls can be individually attuned for each child.

An assigned Family Manager controls the accounts, even promoting other adults to parent or guardian status. Here, users can create and edit custom lists of friends when can be arranged into specific groups. You know - a list for your Nidhogg friends, and one for your Rocket League friends.

Also on tap are a bunch of broadcast feature updates, including the ability to pin your community to your broadcast, so spectators can jump right to your community page to find out about it. Once this is enabled, spectator comments made during a broadcast will be displayed not only in cinematic mode, but also in VR mode.

Good news for Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch. Shared tracks can be listened to directly from the message or through the Spotify app from the PS Messages app on mobile and added to a playlist.

Furthermore, you now have the option to turn off message previews on your pop-up notifications. If you do this, the pop-up notification will hide the message senders' online ID and will display a generic user icon and message instead. For example, users will be able to check on download progress and see new party invites without having to leave a now opened application to do so. Now, users will be able to view more notifications inside the Quick Menu.

Raptors GM: Toronto called Cavaliers about Kyrie Irving
Irving signed a five-year maximum level contract worth US$94 million (AU$118 million) with the Cavs ahead of the 2014-15 season. Just make sure he does it early in the summer so the Knicks can also fit in Porzingis' max contract using his Bird Rights.

Virtual surround sound on PS VR: PlayStation VR now supports 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound through headphones when watching Blu-rays and DVDs in Cinematic Mode.

Notifications also has a tab in the Quick Menu, allowing faster access to download progress, missed party invites, messages and friend requests.

You've already been able to share your favorite music to Twitter and Facebook via PlayStation Music, but now you'll also be able to share via messages using your PS4.

A new bracket viewer has been added to show full tournament brackets for Single Elimination and Double Elimination tournaments on PS4.

Lastly, the PS4 5.0 system update has added support for Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese languages for the user interface.
