"DoD confirms that MTV has invited Service members in their personal capacity to this year's VMAs", Lt. Col. Paul Haverstick told NBC.

According to the report, army members who are in active duty are prohibited from attending high-profile events of national interest, particularly those that are related in politics.

The 2017 MTV #Video Music Awards show is expected to recognize musical artists for their craft, their contribution and their success this year.

So, blatantly standing up against President Trump's outrageous plans to ban transgender service members from the USA military is right in line with the image MTV has been cultivating.

The Weeknd, who was previously announced as a performer, is now absent on the Performers list of artists on the MTV.com website.

Napoli, Sevilla, Celtic into group stage
Sevilla like Celtic survived a major scare as their 2-2 home draw with Istanbul Basaksehir gave them a slender 4-3 aggregate win. Sarri's team won the first leg by a 2-0 score line at the San Paolo as they will be looking to defend this score.

The Pentagon is reviewing invites after the network's president, Chris McCarthy, said on Thursday he would be honoured if the transgender "heroes" attend the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The guidance from the Trump administration is expected to give Defense Secretary Jim Mattis discretion to consider a service member's ability to deploy when deciding whether to separate now servicing transgender service members.

The addition of the "Best Fight Against the System" category was added to the 2017 MTV VMAs to continue reflecting the audience's passion and activism around social justice issues such as environmental justice, immigration, LGBTQ equality and racial justice. The latter will perform on the night, which will also see Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, Lorde and Pink, who is this year's recipient of the Michael Jackson video vanguard award.

This award has previously been given to musical icons such as The Beatles, Guns 'N Roses, Madonna, Beyonce and Rihanna. Tied for second place are Katy Perry and The Weeknd, with five nominations each, and Bruno Mars with four nominations. She will also perform "Chained to Rhythm".

Earlier this year, Emma Watson won the first gender-neutral prize at the MTV TV & Movie Awards. Artist Kendrick Lamar has led the nomination table, earning a total of eight nods.
