Tottenham are on the verge of securing a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes on a season-long loan which could become permanent next summer, according to Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokel. Maybe the loan terms couldn't be worked out, or maybe there was some sticking point in the deal that couldn't be reconciled.

Juventus have once again been linked with Gomes over recent days, along with Premier League sides West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Still, unless we hear conflicting reports from some other source, we should maybe consider this transfer on the shelf for now.

Gomes is reportedly heading to north London to complete the switch before the summer transfer window closes for English clubs late on Thursday.

156000 jobs created in August, as 2017 job gains lag behind 2016
The Bureau of Labor Statistics summary said the unemployment rate rose in August to 4.4 percent, from the previous 4.3 percent. In August, average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees increased by 4 cents to $22.12.

Pochettino remains hopeful of sealing deals for Ross Barkley and Fernando Llorente in the dying hours of the window but rivals Chelsea are interest in both players.

Gomes, however, failed to fulfil those expectations during his debut campaign at the Nou Camp, and was booed by his own crowd in some games.

Gomes, who made only 17 appearances for Barca last season, doesn't feature in the plans of new boss Ernesto Valverde, and the Catalan club are prepared to allow him to leave on a loan move.

Gomes remains under contract with Barcelona until 2021, but the Spanish club are willing to temporarily offload the Portuguese worldwide.
