Warner Bros. Reportedly Sets Sights On Leonardo DiCaprio For The Joker

Now, some are suggesting the move from Warner Bros. could be a play to get Scorsese's longtime collaborator, Leonardo DiCaprio, to channel the comic-book villain.

Although he received mixed reviews for his performance, Jared Leto fully intends to stick around as The Joker in upcoming DC Extended Universe films, including Suicide Squad 2 and an untitled film about The Joker and Harley Quinn.

Still, keep checking Screen Rant for more news on this Joker origin film, including who Warner Brothers is able to actually land for the lead role.

It's noted both Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are not attached to the Joker project as of yet, with no deal now out to Leonardo DiCaprio, and that Martin Scorsese's producer deal isn't even finalized as of yet.

This film, the details of which are still emerging, would be separate from the DC Extended Universe, which features its own version of the Jester of Genocide, played by a green-haired Jared Leto.

DiCaprio could follow in the footsteps of his The Departed co-star Jack Nicholson for the part, and he has had a lucrative past with Warner Bros. previously, such as with Inception ($825.5 million) and The Great Gatsby ($351 million). Tom Phillips, the director behind a number of documentaries, is set to direct the film, which would imagine the origin of the young and gritty clown crime boss in Gotham.

THR's report does caution that "the chances of landing DiCaprio could be slim to none". "But the attempt in itself sends a signal to talent that Warners wants to hire serious filmmakers to make serious films".

This year's "Wonder Woman", however, breathed new life into the franchise. And, like The Dark Knight Joker, this take has the permanent scars in the cheeks of the character.

Meanwhile, a standalone Joker film is also in the works, according to Deadline. Also, this movie will probably be released right after the sequel of "Suicide Squad" is out in theaters.
