Florida State drops in the Coaches Poll

College football's extended Week 1 means the Week 2 AP Top 25 poll came out on Tuesday afternoon (as did the Coaches' Poll).

Alabama remains No. 1 in both polls. One of the biggest changes was Florida Gators, which fell five spots from No. 17 to No. 22 following its loss to Michigan Wolverines.

Washington had an early struggle against Rutgers before pulling away late, but was able to climb a lone spot up to No. 7 from the preseason rank of No. 8.

Week 1 of the season was absolutely packed with high-scoring contests and highly competitive non-conference games between numerous AP Top 25 teams, an entertaining byproduct of college football's new merit-based playoff system. Tennessee stayed put in the AP but are up three spots in the Coaches Poll.

Florida State dropped six spots in the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll to No. 9.

TCU and Notre Dame jumped into the Top 25 in the AP Poll.

Texas, which started the season No. 23, not only fell out of the rankings after getting beaten at home by Maryland but the Longhorns did not receive a single vote. The Mountaineers lost to Virginia Tech in one of the better games of the weekend. Houston, Memphis, San Diego State, Northwestern and Texas Tech are next.
