Justin Thomas Bests Jordan Spieth to Capture Dell Technologies Championship Win

Boston: US PGA champion Justin Thomas and Australia's Marc Leishman surged into the third round lead with impressive performances despite rain and chilly weather at the Dell Technologies Championship on Sunday.

Thomas finished at 17-under. Even as Spieth opened in 30, he didn't lead, as 54-hole co-leader Leishman also went out in 30. "So just go there and play the golf course, and, then, once that week comes, then I'll be hopefully ready to go". The same works for them with me I'm sure. But then it all changed when Spieth missed the green at No. 14, did well to hit a flop shot to 15 feet and narrowly missed his par putt.

"My long irons got off", he said. Spieth stumbled to a 37 on the back with a bogey at the last, and Leishman unfurled an ugly 40. "And I'd love to make it six or seven wins". But Thomas held on in the final round with a 66 or 5-under to get a three-stroke victory at TPC Boston.

Thomas stayed patient, making a birdie at the two par-5s on the front and also eagled the driveable par-4 fourth. It's the golf world's way of saying, "you should pay attention to this guy too because he's really good and friends with a guy you may have heard of before". "I was just trying to get it in the upslope of the bunker and it was an easy up-and-down", said Thomas.

"I was a sore loser, so I was just angry". I hit it so hard.

Though it may seem odd at times, it's refreshing to see rivals battle without the need to spike the ball in the other's face or beat their chest after beating the other man as if they'd just become king of the jungle. I feel as like I've been gone for so long.

"Definitely jealousy", Thomas said of watching Spieth ascend so quickly.

Spieth entered the day 2 back and was locked in, putting his approach at No. 1 to 17 inches and getting inside 9 feet from 219 yards out to eagle the par-5 second.

Merkel says she wants to end Turkey-EU membership talks
Merkel responded: "We had a very dramatic situation then. There are times in the life of a chancellor when she has to decide". Schulz said at the TV duel that if he becomes German Chancellor, he will stop accession talks with Turkey.

Spieth earned 1,200 points for his second-place finish plus $945,000. Because Spieth won two majors in 2015 on his way to that preposterously good year, we think that's the standard. Nine, I got so caught up in how it was going to break that I forgot all about the speed.

"I really could have gone 72 holes without a bogey this week, and that's kind of, I guess you could say, a testimony to where my game is at and the control that I have". I was seeing the putts.

"I have two events left".

The difference in facial expressions between him and the other leaders on the back nine told how uncomfortable he was finding it. Leishman is a very accomplished golfer but needs to become a more regular victor to gain the confidence and aloofness that great players have.

In a final-round 66, Matsuyama made six birdies against a lone bogey for his lowest score of the tournament, but his 5-under total was not enough to push him higher up the season's points standings as all three players above him - Thomas, Spieth and Dustin Johnson - finished better in MA.

Phil Mickelson (69) and Patrick Cantlay (68) are both at 205 in a tie for ninth.

"I have some of my best friends have won way more than I have and won more majors", Thomas added.
