With Everton wobbling, Wayne Rooney set for tough return to Manchester United

Rooney spent 13 years with United, becoming the club's all-time record goalscorer in January of this year he netted his 250th in United colours.

The Manchester United striker has managed to reach double figures in total for club and country already this season but has had the likes of Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Fellaini and Bailly all chip in with goals as well.

"I think the stadium will show him the respect he deserves". We can't afford to take it easy against Atalanta and Koeman has stated he expects a big response from the Spurs defeat (I've mentioned the Spurs game way too many times now).

"I think clearly he is one of the most important players in the history of Manchester United", Mourinho commented as he spoke with the press on Friday afternoon.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davvy Klassen and Wayne Rooney may all be good, technical players, but they largely perform similar roles.

Alejandro Gomez added a second for Atalanta in the 41 minute, before Bryan Cristante finished the rout just before the half-time whistle. Given that the other two sides in their group are Apollon Limassol and last season's semi-finalists Lyon, a good start in Italy is essential.

Asked whether his own job might be under pressure, Koeman said he knew modern-day soccer was "all about winning and results".

"He has friends in the dressing room and he has a good relationship with the way we are playing football at the moment".

While Lukaku joined United from Everton in the close season, another player made the opposite journey with former England captain Wayne Rooney set to make his first appearance back at Old Trafford after rejoining his hometown club.

"I wasn't so anxious after Chelsea, but it started after the reaction in the second half against Tottenham in that 45 minutes and in the first 45 minutes of yesterday". I think fans recognise that.

Everton's poor start has cast doubts over their ability to challenge for a top-four spot this season, but Jagielka, who has been at the club since 2007, said he believed it was too early to judge their prospects.

"I'm not going to analyse in that perspective, " he said. I know how we have to defend him.
