Barcelona chief Grau: We have the money to buy Coutinho in January

Liverpool made their stance clear when they rejected Coutinho's transfer request and rebuffed Barcelona's bids of £72 million, £90.3m and £118m.

But their resolve is to be tested once more with an increased bid in January after Barca chief executive Oscar Grau indicated they are preparing an offer Liverpool can not refuse with cash from the sale of Neymar.

"We are [financially] prepared to sign Coutinho or any other player in January. We want to have the team as competitive as possible ".

The Catalan giants are set to anger Kop chiefs by chasing the Brazil ace again when the transfer window reopens.

Barcelona are on course to become the world's highest earning sports club, with record revenues of £804m (€897m) forecast for the financial year 2017/18.

It was a summer of speculation surrounding Coutinho's future.

Liverpool were reluctant to sell their star asset last summer, despite receiving a bid believed to be in the region of £120m, but are thought to be willing to sell next summer.

Yet with the Reds seventh in the Premier League, and showing little evidence that the defence is on the rise, there will always be a part of Coutinho that has eyes on a move to the Camp Nou.

Philippe Coutinho has a "pact" with Liverpool which would allow him to leave the club for Barcelona in January, according to reports in Spain.

At the time of writing, there are 20 more players to be revealed - at which point we will know who Coutinho is competing with for the award.
