Veteran British actor Roy Dotrice dies aged 94

Roy Dotrice, the British actor most known for playing historical figures in one-man stage shows, died in London on Monday. In 1984, Dotrice starred as Leopold Mozart in Amadeus; the film went on to take home eight Oscars, including Best Picture.

"Game Of Thrones" actor Roy Dotrice has passed away at the age of 94. Dotriceplayed Hallyne the pyromancer on the HBO series, the elderly man who aided Tyrion in his acquisition of Wildfire, which led to the Crown's victory over Stannis Baratheon at the Battle of Blackwater.

He gained many new fans later in his career as narrator for audiobook editions of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of novels, which helped inspire the TV fantasy "Game of Thrones".

The acting veteran was originally cast in a key role in Game of Thrones as Grand Maester Pycelle, but was reportedly forced to withdraw from the part for medical reasons, with Julian Glover taking over the role.

Prior to acting, Dotrice served in the Royal Air Force during WWII as a air gunner and wireless operator. His plane was shot down and he was a prisoner of war from 1942 until 1945.

Dotrice reportedly performed for other prisoners in shows meant to raise their spirits, which inspired him to become an actor after World War II was over. Roy Dotrice was also awarded the title of Officer of excellence in the Order of the british Empire, appointed by queen Elizabeth II. His wife Kay died in 2007 after 60 years of marriage.

They had three daughters together - Yvette, Karen and Michele who was married to actor Edward Woodward, who died in 2009.
