DeMarcus Cousins says first tech of season was 'bogus'

New Orleans Pelicans forward DeMarcus Cousins has been fined $25,000 for directing inappropriate language towards a fan, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Cousins and the Pelicans are 0-2 so far this season, suffering losses to the Grizzlies on the road opening night and then in their home opener last night when the Golden State Warriors came to town.

The NBA Cares program started in 2001, but this is the first year for an award recognizing a player's efforts during the offseason.

John Wall, a teammate of Cousins while at Kentucky, won the in-season NBA Cares Community Assist Award in 2016.

"That was pretty bogus", Cousins said.

The final cost of the project hasn't been disclosed but is likely to run over Dollars 1 billion, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal .

On Sept. 23, Cousins held his annual block party at Figures Park in Mobile, where he signed a giant check for $253,000 and presented it to Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson to build an outdoor basketball facility at the park. He worked with VSP Global to provide free eye exams for all participants in Sacramento, and he donated backpacks and school supplies in Birmingham. There, he visited orphaned youth at SOS Children's Village and helped host a Junior NBA Special Olympics Unified Basketball Clinic for local athletes.

For winning the award, Kaiser Permanente and the National Basketball Association will donate $10,000 on Cousins' behalf to Houston Mayor's Relief Fund through Dynamo Charities.

The three-time All-Star verbalized his frustration with the fan's actions and was assessed a technical foul with 50 seconds remaining in the game. "I shouldn't have responded to it, but I'm a human being and I'm also a grown man", Cousins said after the game.

Cousins has individually been good, putting up big numbers with 31.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 blocks per night.
