Raisa was sharing a house with Gomez when she realized how weak her friend was becoming. She didn't want to ask anyone to donate to her because of what a serious decision and commitment that is, but that's when Raisa stepped up, without hesitation.

And she was just weeks away from dialysis, a treatment to help purify the blood when the kidneys aren't working. "She couldn't open a water bottle one day".

Francia woke up feeling calm, but when Selena woke up from her first surgery, she started hyperventilating. I said, 'What's wrong?' and that's when she told me. And it just vomited out of me, I was like, 'Of course I'll get tested'.

Raisa immediately volunteered to get tested to see if she could be Gomez's kidney donor.

Fortunately for the 25-year-old singer was able to find a willing donor in her best friend Francia Raisa, after doctors found that she was the flawless match.

Selena Gomez has credited her best pal Francia Raisa for saving her life by giving her a kidney in an emotional new interview.

'And she goes, "I don't know what to do".

"I was freaking out", Gomez said. "It was a six-hour surgery that they had to do on me, and the normal kidney process is actually two hours", the "Wolves" singer said. Gomez's kidney apparently flipped inside her body, causing huge pain and an additional surgery. "I just hope that this inspires people to feel good, to know that there is (sic) really good people in the world".

The friends weren't just up and running around afterward-it was a tough recovery process. They also remained on bed rest, walking for only one hour each day.

Selena Gomez is speaking out about an urgent kidney transplant she underwent over the summer that she's since said was a "life or death" effect of her lupus.

The limitations were particularly tough for Francia to get used to when it came to bathing and changing. "I'm very thankful that there are people who know what to do in that situation". "I think one of the more humbling experiences was needing help to put on underwear".

She revealed that her mom didn't even want to be at the hospital until she woke up. According to the National Kidney Foundation, the median wait time for a first-time kidney transplant is 3.6 years, a statistic which fluctuates along with health, compatibility, and availability.

"My kidneys were just done", the 25-year-old sais on USA breakfast programme The Today Show host on Monday. "It was a really brutal process". "That's not real", Gomez added.
