Colorado police are searching for an armed and risky man who is a suspect in the shooting of three at a Walmart store in a Denver suburb Wednesday night.

Police are saying this is not an active shooter situation, but it is an active crime scene.

Police have not provided a number of people who may have been shot. Dozens of police cars and emergency vehicles converged at the store. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene; a female victim was taken to an area hospital where she later died.

A police spokesman said: "This is a very heinous act", a police spokesman said.

It is located off Interstate 25 in Thornton, which is north of downtown Denver.

A call to the Thornton Police Department went unanswered.

The shooting happened at the Walmart at 9900 Grant Street. "Customers were screaming. They were running like insane, and I ran out too because I didn't want to get killed", he said.

He recounted that "the employees started screaming and the customers started screaming" as people began to flee the store.
