A North Side alderman said he is taking "immediate action" after a drug deal led to the fatal shooting of one man, and the wounding of two people, including a 12-year-old, inside an Uptown Starbucks on Thursday night.

A man, 28, was dead at the scene following the shooting about 8:10 p.m.at the Starbucks, 4753 N. Broadway, at Lawrence Avenue, according to police.Family members identified the victim as 28-year-old Sauvignon Watkins of Chatham. The 12-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the groin and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

A third male was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man sustained a gunshot wound to the body; police say he self-transported to Weiss Hospital. Fire officials said the boy was in serious-to-critical condition.

It's not clear if the shooting happened inside the store.

It started when "one of the individuals involved in the drug sale ran inside the Starbucks, followed by another person involved in the sale, who opened fired inside the Starbucks, shooting the individual he was chasing and two others", Cappleman said.

"We believe that the three victims did know each other", he said, adding that he did not know if either of the men were the child's father.

The suspect is still at large, he said. A spokesperson for Starbucks said they are dismayed to hear about the gun violence and are working with law enforcement to obtain more information.

Area North detectives are investigating.
