Disney-Fox mashup would truly be over the top

According to a report by CNBC, 21st Century Fox is in talks to sell part of the company to Disney.

Shortly after the initial report surfaced that Disney had entered into talks with 21st Century Fox to acquire the latter's movie properties ad right, a second report has arrived throwing that deal into doubt.

Officials at Disney and Fox declined to comment. One is that Fox believes most in the future value of news and sports compared to entertainment, and there's some logic for that given the challenges movie studios and non-sports television networks are facing. Disney would not buy Fox's broadcast network, Fox's sports programming, or the Fox News or Business channels.

According to the sources, Disney would not buy all of Fox and the goal would be to form a much stronger traditional Hollywood studio in an era of fierce competition from internet companies like Netflix and Hulu. Disney, which under USA rules could not own two broadcast networks, would not purchase all of Fox, CNBC reported, citing the same sources.

Jags RB Leonard Fournette benched for Sunday's game
The team released a statement shortly before game time saying Fournette was suspended for the game due to a team rule infraction. Linder had been out the last three games with an illness with Shatley starting at center in his place.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on this deal. But Disney could acquire Fox's film and television studios, global assets like Sky and Star, and Fox's cable networks including FX and National Geographic. That £11.7bn ($15.41bn) deal has run afoul of regulators' concerns about media plurality in the United Kingdom and the Murdochs' commitment to broadcasting standards.

Sheikh said he is surprised that the Murdoch family, which controls 21 Century Fox, would consider giving up control of the company.

Of course, if Fox and Disney come to an agreement, both sides must get something out of it. So it would definitely be interesting to see how a more-focused-on sports Fox would do, and how investors would react.

Shares of Fox jumped 7.5% to 26.85 in afternoon trading in the stock market today. Disney's shares were up 1.2 pct at $99.86 US.
