The Oscar victor comes off of HBO's Emmy-award winning series Big Little Lies where Witherspoon also produced and starred with Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman.

Apple spokeswoman Rita Cooper Lee also confirmed the company had ordered a remake of Steven Spielberg's 1980s science fiction anthology series Amazing Stories.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple nabbed the rights to the coveted project after it sparked intense interest from multiple outlets over the summer, and has already given the show a two-season order.

It will draw on "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV" by Brian Stelter, CNN senior media correspondent.

Aniston, who will make her first TV series regular return more than a decade after Friends, will exec produce via her Echo Films banner.

For Apple, which has yet to disclose how it plans to distribute its content, the deal for the Witherspoon-Aniston project is the second big programming bet it has made in the last several weeks.

Emmy-nominated Jay Carson ("House of Cards") will write, executive produce and serve as showrunner for the series, which does not have a launch date. Michael Ellenberg, the former head of drama at HBO, will also be an executive producer. The drama will transport the audience to worlds of wonder through the lens of today's most imaginative filmmakers, directors and writers.

Apple's programming efforts are being overseen by Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, who joined the company from Sony June. Spielberg, Fuller, Amblin's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey and "Bones" creator Hart Hanson are exec producers.

Reese, 41, posted a snap of the two to her 17 million Instagram followers, alongside the caption: 'So excited to be back and reunited with this one-of-a-kind lady! She is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson. Stelter is serving as a consultant.
