The Vandenberg Air Force Base Honor Guard strikes the colors as students stand a attention during Sanchez Elementary School's Veterans Day celebration.

Students at Sherwood Christian Academy held their annual Veterans Day program on Friday, November 10, at Sherwood Baptist Church.

"We've got parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles". For numerous students, the ceremony meant taking the time to thank moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas, aunts, and uncles for their service.

Brown Funeral Home and United Bank were this year's sponsors for the Veterans Day reception and assembly, according to Melonas.

Groups from the school system participating included music ensembles from Veterans Elementary and the Howard High School JROTC. "I just can't imagine what they're doing for us overseas right now, fighting for our freedom and giving us their best".

At all of the schools, veterans and their families are welcome, along with other community members.

"They provided us with coffee and doughnuts to supply to our guests, which is great", Melonas said. ROTC, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Students have also created profiles of veterans - those special to them or those from history - which are on display throughout the school. The Norman Park Elementary Choir sang songs about America and gave handwritten letters of thanks to the veterans in attendance.
