Our Defence Affairs Are Not Negotiable: Iran FM to Macron

According to Mehr, the Iranian diplomat made the remarks after French President Emmanuel Macron took anti-Iran positions during his visits to Persian Gulf states of UAE and Saudi Kingdom.

On Thursday, during a visit to Saudi Arabia, Macron said there were "extremely strong concerns about Iran".

"Meanwhile, France is fully aware of Iran's firm stance towards its defense capabilities, viewing it as non-negotiable", Foreign Ministry's official website quoted him as saying.

"We have told French officials repeatedly that the nuclear deal is not negotiable and other issues will not be allowed to be added to it".

His decision threw the fate of the agreement into the hands of the US Congress that has until mid-December to decide whether to reinstate sanctions.

Trump announced last month that he will no longer certify Iran's compliance, despite the United Nations nuclear agency's reports verifying Iran's full commitment.

Last month, Macron told Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a phone call that France remained committed to the deal but stressed on the necessity to have a dialogue with Iran on other strategic issues, including Tehran's ballistic missile programme, a proposal ruled out by Iran.

Saudi Arabia heaped on additional the accusations, stating that Iran supplied weapons to the Houthi rebels.

The United States accused Iran on Tuesday of supplying Yemen's Houthi rebels with a missile that was sacked into Saudi Arabia in July and called for the United Nations to hold Tehran accountable for violating two UN Security Council resolutions.

Tehran says it has no plans to build nuclear-capable missiles and the missile programme is for defence purposes.

"We expect France not to be swayed by inculcation and false signals sent by certain countries in the Persian Gulf region against the Islamic Republic of Iran", the Iranian spokesperson said.

The Yemeni army on November 5 confirmed that it had targeted Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with a long-range Borkan H2 ballistic missile.
