George Clooney Is Returning to Television

The role will mark Clooney's first regular television role since he broke out on the medical drama "E.R." in the early 1990s. Davies and Michôd are repped by UTA.

It will be the second adaptation of the seminal Heller novel, Catch-22 having already been turned into a cult film in 1970 directed by Mike Nichols. The novel explored the paradox of requirements where airmen who felt mentally unfit to fly were not obligated to do so, but anyone who applied to stop flying was sane enough to fly, creating the catch-22 of its title.

In addition to acting, he will also direct with long time collaborator Grant Heslov, 54. In the forthcoming TV series, Clooney will step into Balsam's shoes to play Colonel Cathcart, the ambitious and ruthless officer in charge of Yossarian's squadron.

Clooney's directing credits include The Ides of March, The Monuments Men and Suburbicon, which hits United Kingdom cinemas on 24th November and stars Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. It focuses on Yossarian, an Air Force bombardier who's furious due to the bureaucratic rule known as Catch-22, which specifies that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind. He and Heslov are repped by CAA. It's a joint venture of Paramount Television and Anonymous (who also collaborated on 13 Reasons Why and Berlin Station), but the project does not have a network yet.
