Russian Fighter Intercepts US Reconaissance Aircraft over Black Sea

Approaching at high speed, the Russian jet, equipped with air-to-air missiles, came within five feet of the U.S. aircraft during the 24 minute incident.

A US Navy P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine warfare aircraft was intercepted by a Russian Air Force Su-30 Flanker fighter jet on November 25.

United States officials have accused the Russian pilot of acting in an "unsafe" manner by crossing in front of the Navy P-8.

Powerful Russian Su-27 jet fighter contained air-to-air missiles hidden under its wings and chassed the US Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance jet coming rapidly within five feet of the US aircraft, officials reported.

Also speaking to state news agency RIA Novosti, the retired deputy commander of Russia's air force, Nikolay Antoshkin, dismissed the US reaction.

A Russian fighter jet on Saturday intercepted an American reconnaissance aircraft over the global waters of the Black Sea, local media reported Tuesday.

The last reported interaction between USA and Russian aircraft took place in June when a Russian Sukhoi Su-27 flew within five feet of an American RC-135 reconnaissance plane. The U.S. Navy deemed the interaction safe.

"Unsafe actions‎ have the potential to cause serious harm and injury to all air crews involved", she said.

The Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet reportedly crossed in front of the U.S. P-8A Poseidon aircraft on November 25, flying as close as 50 feet, and turned on its afterburners, Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told CNN.
