Tigers reportedly deal Ian Kinsler to Angels

With multiple big named veterans on the trade block, Detroit has reportedly dealt veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler to the Los Angeles Angels.

Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the news.

The 35-year-old Kinsler hit.236 with 22 home runs and 52 RBIs in 139 games last season for the rebuilding Tigers, who tied San Francisco for the worst record in the majors at 64-98. He'll attempt to bounce back for an Angels team that had an opening at second. According to Kinsler's agent, Jay Franklin, Kinsler would require a contract extension before waving his no-trade clause, which makes a ton of sense because he's in the final year of his contract and doesn't want to risk being moved again during the 2018 season. The Tigers have not yet confirmed the deal or said who the Angels are sending in return.

The four-time All-Star and 2016 Gold Glove victor adds a steady and productive veteran to the Angels' lineup as they try to construct a playoff team around two-time AL MVP Mike Trout. The move comes just days after the Angels signed Japanese standout pitcher and hitter Shohei Ohtani. The Tigers acquired Kinsler from the Rangers in a trade that sent Prince Fielder to Texas and he batted.275 with 78 homers and 300 runs batted in for Detroit.

Danny Espinosa and Cliff Pennington split time there for the Halos last season; both are no longer with the club.

He was productive the last four years with the Tigers, although his batting average fell in 2017 to a career low.
