Trump Critics Think the Robert Mueller Email 'Scandal' Is Baloney

Yesterday John Roberts and Alex Pappas reported for FOX News that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has obtained transition documents including confidential attorney-client communications, privileged communications and thousands of emails without their knowledge.

The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin directed efforts to influence the presidential election campaign in ways that would help Trump and hurt his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton.

This in turn has led to speculation that the administration could be laying the groundwork for firing Mueller.

GSA is the government agency which supports presidential transitions - the interim period after a new president is elected but before he takes office.

But a lawyer for the Trump transition on Saturday sent a letter to two congressional committees arguing that the materials were acquired in a way that was "unlawful".

A spokesman for Mueller, Peter Carr, responded on Sunday to the accusations to CNN.

"When we have obtained emails in the course of our ongoing criminal investigation, we have secured either the account owner's consent or appropriate criminal process. I haven't heard anything about this, any firing", Mnuchin told CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning. "It's a giant distraction".

This dispute over the lawful obtaining of this batch of emails is the latest in a series of ongoing attacks, particularly from conservatives, on the Department of Justice investigation looking into what role Russian Federation played in interfering in the 2016 presidential election.

"No, I'm not", Mr. Trump told reporters upon his arrival back at the White House.

Among the officials who used transition email accounts was former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to a count of making false statements to FBI agents in January and is now cooperating with Mueller's investigation. So the president has a legitimate case to make that Mueller is on a fishing expedition - a partisan witch hunt using taxpayer dollars to do the bidding of Democrats in Congress to find evidence to impeach the president.

Republicans asked the US Justice Department on Wednesday to name a new independent prosecutor to probe alleged bias in the Federal Bureau of Investigation after a top agent's anti-Trump text messages were released to the media. "He wants to shut down these investigations and he wants to fire special counsel Mueller".

The senator's comments come as conservatives have tried to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russia's election interference and any potential ties between Trump campaign staff members and Moscow. In fact, Mueller may seek to rescue his investigation by baiting Trump into firing him. They also follow Mueller's removal of one of his investigators after learning he had exchanged text messages with an Federal Bureau of Investigation attorney that showed bias against then-candidate Trump.
