Court delivers Zuma impeachment blow
Parliament has started a process to outline a procedure to implement section 89 and will finalized these rules in line with the court's order, it said in an emailed statement. In October the Supreme Court reversed the decision of the National Prosecuting Authority to drop corruption charges against Zuma and ordered the president must face those charges in court.
Handing down the judgement on Friday, Justice Chris Jafta, said the failure by the National Assembly to make rules regulating the impeachment of the president constituted a violation of the Constitution.
He said that they were informed on Thursday morning that the court would be sitting. Now that the ruling party's top seat is no longer his, but Cyril Ramaphosa's, Zuma may not have the same protection he once had.

Zuma, 75, who denies the allegation and a number of others, is expected to remain president until general elections in 2019.
Political parties have welcomed the judgment, with the Economic Freedom Fighters saying it looks forward to Parliament developing the necessary rules that could initiate an impeachment process. Dozens of EFF supporters, clad in their trademark red shirts and berets, danced and sang outside the court after the judgment was delivered.
Atlanta news anchor Amanda Davis dies after stroke
In Davis' last tweet on December 20, she thanked her friend Debbie Turman for sending flowers after the death of her father. On Sunday, the anchor posted to Facebook about celebrating Christmas after losing a loved one .
"The pressure will come from within the ANC to engineer a dignified exit for President Zuma. this judgment hastens or adds substantial pressure for an early retirement by Zuma", he told Reuters.
It is not the first time Zuma has faced off with the court.
Former graft ombudsman Thuli Madonsela found in 2014 that Zuma unduly benefited from a taxpayer-funded R215.9 million ($17 million) upgrade of his private home and ordered him to pay back part of the money.
Saftu urged the National Assembly to take action following the court's ruling.
Opposition parties have argued that parliament has not done enough, given the gravity of the court's findings.
The court was hearing a case brought by opposition groups who wanted parliament to be compelled to begin impeachment.
