Senators Refer Dossier Author to DOJ in Criminal Referral

US Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have called on the Justice Department (DOJ) to investigate Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous Trump-Russia dossier that was revealed to the public in January 2017.

Blumenthal appeared on MSNBC tonight, and Steve Kornacki--filling in for Chris Matthews--asked him if he's aware of the evidence they're citing "that justifies the investigation".

Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and Sen.

Democrats dismissed the criminal referral as another political attempt to discredit the Russian Federation investigations.

The criminal referral is an escalation by Republicans struggling over the credibility of the dossier written by Steele about President Donald Trump and Russia -- and by extension the FBI and special counsel investigations into possible collusion between Russian officials and the Trump team.

FBI investigators met with House Speaker Paul Ryan: FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein met with the House speaker to discuss sharing files related to their investigation of the infamous dossier about Trump's alleged ties to Russian Federation. On Friday, Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said the department had received the referral and will review it. Trump has called the dossier "phony" and derided it as a politically motivated hit job, and many Republicans in Congress have been focused on discrediting it. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan called on Sessions to resign in an op-ed published by the conservative Washington Examiner, citing leaks coming out of the Federal Bureau of Investigation they said Sessions appeared unable to "control".

Martin has seen another of his books, Nightflyers, given the greenlight by Syfy in the U.S. and Netflix internationally. Last year, hackers were able to get their hands on several episodes, prompting HBO to air them before the release date.

The FBI has reopened its absurd investigation of the Clinton Foundation.

We found out the real reason that prompted the FBI probe into Trump and Russia: According to The New York Times, former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign George Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in October, was responsible for initiating the Trump-Russia investigation.

Mueller is now spearheading the FBI's investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, including whether members of Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to tilt the election in his favor.

"The rule of law depends on the government and all who work on its behalf playing by the rules themselves", Graham said in a statement.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said she and her Democratic colleagues were not consulted on the referral. Nunes' committee has been seeking information about Steele's research for months. A release from the committee said that the referral, which is based on both classified and publicly available information unearthed by investigators, does not pertain to the veracity of claims in the dossier. It was not immediately clear from the referral what Steele allegedly lied to investigators about.

A lawyer for Fusion GPS, which was initially paid by a conservative website tied to Republicans and then later by Democrats to carry out the research into Trump, criticized the senators for the referral and also for publicizing it. "We should all be sceptical in the extreme".
