Voters Wary of Trump, Confident in Economy

A Quinnipiac poll released on Wednesday found that just over half of Americans, 51 percent, say Democrats should not begin impeachment proceedings if they win the House, while 45 percent say the party should move to impeach Trump if they win in November.

Almost 4 in 10 USA voters gave President Donald Trump a failing grade for his first year in office, with "disaster" and "chaotic" the words most used to describe his first 12 months in the White House.

"It's been a very tough freshman year for President Donald Trump by any measure", said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll.

Seventy-three percent of voters also believed their personal financial situation was "excellent" or "good" and 26 percent said theirs was "not so good" or "poor". Poll takers called people at both landline and mobile phone numbers.

"But 49 percent of voters say former President Barack Obama is more responsible for the state of the economy, while 40 percent say Trump is more responsible".

The president has only drawn attention to one of the worst polls for him yet. While almost 70 per cent of voters feel Trump is not "level headed", 53 per cent feel the president is "intelligent" compared to the 44 per cent who said he's not "intelligent" and the 28 per cent who said he's "level headed".

Trump's approval rating is at 36 percent, the same approval rating he had on January 26 in Quinnipiac's first poll after his inauguration.

The poll went on to ask voters to grade Trump's first year in office.
