Apple is expected to maintain a total production target of 30 million units for lower-priced models such as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

The drop follows lower-than-expected holiday sales for the premium iPhone. Additionally the 6.1 inch phone will have a rectangular shaped one-cell battery, this will be 8.5% larger than the battery in the current iPhone X. What is perhaps the most exciting for a number of people is that the phones are predicted to have a lower starting price between $700 and $800, for the US market at least. According to a report from The Investor, industry sources shared that Apple is set to launch two new iPhone models, one with a 5.85-inch screen and another with a 6.64-inch display.

Worse yet, lackluster sales could delay Apple's plans to bring OLED screens to future handsets.

Saudi billionaire Alwaleed 'released' from detention
A television played business news programmes, and a mug with an image of his own face on it was perched on the desk. A senior Saudi official said Prince Alwaleed was released after a financial settlement was reached.

Best not get too attached to the iPhone X branding, though, as there's a chance the next-generation model will leave the factory under a different moniker. It will start slowing production soon.

"After the first wave of demand has been fulfilled, the market now worries that the high price of the iPhone X may weaken demand in the first quarter", Zhang wrote.

Apple didn't respond to a request for comment on Monday. Following a downgrade to an investment recommendation for Sony last week, other iPhone X-related Japanese electronic parts manufacturers also saw their share prices decline. Apple India halved distributor margins to 1.7-2.5 per cent and gave distributors specific areas of responsibility to protect those margins, says the report. The iPhone X may have been the best-selling smartphone of the Christmas quarter, but sales momentum was apparently lost after that. Presumably, Apple would continue to offer the 4.7-inch iPhone 8, but that would feature older components. The quarterly results will be announced Thursday, U.S. time.
