A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Get ready for some snow and freezing rain Wednesday - there's a 100 percent chance for snow followed by a wintry mix, the National Weather Service said.

Winds of 40-miles an hour (65 kph) and as much as 4 inches (10 cm) of snow are expected across the affected regions, with parts of NY and Vermont getting as much as a foot of snow, the NWS said. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Another system will move through Friday with more snow.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers after noon.

Rush hour on Wednesday evening likely will be a mess, with heavy snow expected from NY to Boston. Strong northwest winds kick in this afternoon, gusting at times to 30 miles per hour, so blowing and drifting snow may be an issue in open areas.
