Thrills and Spills - A Figure Skating lesson with Olympian Adam Rippon

Gangneung: Four years ago, American figure skater Mirai Nagasu was heartbroken after being left out of the usa team for the Sochi Olympics in favour of a woman who ranked lower than she had at a key qualifying event.

"It was very bad", Nagasu told USA Today about missing the roster.

She finished second place in the ladies free skating, with a final score of 137.53 overall, helping Team USA to bring home a bronze medal for figure skating. "It think that would be a much bigger distraction for me and right now, I'm just focusing on competing but I'm very excited to be here representing the United States and the LGBT community".

She's since reinvented herself by adding the triple axel to her quiver, becoming only the third ever American to land the sport's most hard element in competition after Kimmie Meissner and Tonya Harding.

"I'm definitely going to be plugging myself here", Nagasu tells Yahoo!

Nagasu is the third woman to perform the triple axel at the Olympics, the other two skaters were Japanese athletes Midori Ito and Mao Asada. It doesn't happen immediately. Nagasu will compete next on February 20, and her skating club is already hosting a viewing party.

Denver, Las Vegas among finalists to host 2019, 2020 drafts
KC is one of five cities remaining to host the event in 2019 or 2020, joining Las Vegas, Denver, Nashville, and Cleveland/Canton. The NFL Draft continues to become a surprising spectacle of greater and greater proportions with each and every offseason.

Rippon did not try any quadruple jumps while Kolyada and Chan did.

Competing in the women's individual in the team event, Nagasu nailed the triple axel, becoming only the third woman in Olympic history to ever nail it. It's a lesson in focus and betting on the longevity of your career, even when the current situation looks hopeless.

She was snubbed for Sochi in 2014 despite finishing third in the U.S. nationals as the selectors handed the Olympic berth to Ashley Wagner, who finished fourth. After his cheeseburger-eating-low, Rippon said his coach asked him point-blank: Did he actually like competing? While Canada didn't win a gold medal in 1988, we put on a wonderful show and Calgary won over the world.

Mirai Nagasu and Adam Rippon shared tears of sorrow when they were left off the Olympic team four years ago, each of them passed over in decisions that could have gone either way. And I might miss every element in my program.' But I said: 'You know what?

But I'm very fortunate that I'm American and so I'll be the first US lady to have landed the triple axel.
