Introducing Alcatel 1X, the first Android Go phone

Alcatel 1X is the company's most affordable smartphone in the series. Alcatel touts that all of these devices feature tall 18:9 displays, a trendy feature in the smartphone world, and they've all got Face Key face unlock technology, too. The phone comes with dual 12MP + 5MP cameras on the back and a 5MP camera at the front. LG has launched two new high-end smartphones, the LG V30S ThinQ and the LG V30S+ ThinQ. The 1T 7 is a 7-inch tablet with 1,024 x 600p IPS display while the 1T 10 features a 10-inch 1,280 x 800p IPS display. The user can authenticate this device using the fingerprint sensor or face unlock. The Alcatel 3X, on the other hand, brings the screen size down just a tad, and changes the secondary rear camera out for a 5-megapixel one with a 120-degree wide angle lens for some fantastic shots. The Android Oreo phone has quad core MediaTek MT8735A chipset, 2 GB RAM, 16/32 GB internal memory, a micro SD card slot and a 3000 mAh battery.

The Alcatel 5 is priced at 220 Euros (~$270) and will come in Metallic Gold and Metallic Black. It will be available in color choices of Spectrum Black, Blue, and Gold. The 1T 7 has a 7-inch TFT screen with 1024x600 pixels resolution and is powered by the quad-core MediaTek 8321A/D processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt storage, 2MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera and 2580mAh battery. Why 18:9 instead of 2:1?

Puzzling is the fact that only the 3 and 3V are running Android Oreo. At the top end is the 3V, which sports a 6-inch 2K resolution screen, with a dual camera setup that's created to take portrait mode style shots. As for the tablets, Alcatel has launched its 1T 10 and Alcatel 1T 7 tablets, both powered by Android 8.1 Oreo. Besides, the phone offers a 12MP camera with f/2.2, 1.25 µm pixel size and dual-tome LED flash. The 3V's primary lens is 12 megapixels to the 3X's 13, and the 3V's secondary camera is 2-MP to the 3X's 5-MP.

For now, though, it's Chinese device maker TCL that is hogging all the attention with its new lineup of budget smartphones that includes, interestingly, the world's first Android Go smartphone, the Alcatel 1X. The device will be pre-loaded with Android Go edition based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Again, what gives? Pricing is €100 for the single SIM version and €110 for the dual one - about $123 and $135, respectively. The 3X is set to only be available in "select markets" and will sell for $179 Euros (approximately $278 CAD), while the 3V costs 189 Euros (about $293 CAD).
