Dan Fegan, longtime National Basketball Association agent, killed in auto accident at age 56

This was the case with National Basketball Association agent Dan Fegan, who was killed in a auto crash on Sunday.

The Colorado State Patrol tells The Aspen Times that Fegan was driving an SUV when he tried to merge onto a highway and was broadsided by a commuter bus near Aspen, which is about 180 miles west of Denver.

Rockets big man Nene was one of Fegan's clients and posted a thoughtful and heartfelt message about his former agent on Instagram. The CEO of Roaring Fork Transportation Authority defended the driver and said that the driver didn't have time to react towards the fatal crash and was unable to prevent his vehicle from colliding with Fegan's SUV. "We ask for privacy at this hard time", the statement added.

USA Today noted Fegan had an "aggressive" style of negotiating on behalf of his clients, who included at one time or another John Wall of the Washington Wizards, Dwight Howard of the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans' DeMarcus Cousins.

Ottawa received in return Filip Gustavsson, Ian Cole, a first-round pick and a third-round pick. He was drafted sixth overall in the 2006 draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets .

Fegan's first client as a sports agent was his Yale Law School (he graduated from the school) fellow student and friend Chris Dudley. Both are still alive but were airlifted to a hospital with "serious injuries".

The NBA's main Twitter account tweeted: "The NBA family mourns the loss of longtime agent Dan Fegan".

Memphis Grizzlies forward Chandler Parsons tweeted: "I can't believe you are gone". He had a public falling out in 2017 with his agency, Independant Sports & Entertainment (ISE). "As I saw you in your bathrobe and slippers I thought, I like this guy".
