Apple Turns Up Audio Ambition With High-End Headphones

This year is likely to draw a lot of attention to Apple's audio products, which the company is planning to upgrade with even more premium hardware.

Apple's then-new AirPods are seen on a screen during a promotional event in San Francisco in 2016. As a result, Apple is going to have to be smart about the pricing strategy, which it will, given its success with the AirPods. A pair of well-designed, high-end headphones, with noise-canceling technology and Siri built-in, could be enough to convince Apple loyalists to drop yet more cash on the company.

Because of this, we have absolutely no idea when Apple might release the headphones.

Bloomberg sources corroborate an earlier KGI report that Apple is working on high-end, over-ear headphones meant to compete with Bose.

Turkey detains 12 Islamic State suspects, seeks 8 others
Turkish police detained four Daesh (ISIS) suspects as part of an investigation into a possible attack on the U.S. On March 5, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ said US consulates in Turkey were "operating as normal".

Interestingly, the report says the headphones will bear the Apple logo. Apple is said to be readying this new product launch for the end of the year, although, supposed development issues could be a factor in an otherwise tentative release date.

Last month, we learned the first Apple-branded over-ear headphones were being developed. Within that category, wearable product sales, which include the Watch, AirPods, and Beats headphones, surged 70 percent past year, Apple said on a recent earnings call.

These Apple-branded headphones could also cannibalize Beats headphones, although Beats manages to sell lower-priced wireless headphones that probably won't directly compete with the new product. The said headphones are speculated to be targeted at the high-end of the market with features such as wireless pairing.

Similar headphones from Beats and others can cost anywhere from $200 to $500. There's been no indication yet on when, if ever, Apple would release these headphones.
