Eden Hazard Suggests Antonio Conte's Tactics Cost Chelsea in Manchester City Defeat

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has jumped to the defence of manager Antonio Conte, amid growing criticism of the Italian's tactics in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Blues have now lost four of their last five Premier League games, which has left them fifth, five points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur.

Sky Sports pundits Jamie Redknapp and Gary Neville had earlier labelled Chelsea's display in their 1-0 defeat vs City as "anti-football" and "embarrassing" respectively, and Conte has since hit out at both Redknapp and Neville referring to them as "stupid".

Chelsea were able to muster three shots in the second half after Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock a minute after the restart, but none of them were on target.

He said: "You sometimes think of the manager's situation - I've been saying for a long time he'll be there next season".

Bernardo Silva got just enough on a second half shot in Manchester City's 1-0 win against Chelsea in the Premier League.

"I think that we must have a big regret for the defeats against Bournemouth, Watford and United, but I don't think today because I think we played against a strong team", he said.

"We are not happy with that (but) it is not the day and the moment to question whether we are behind the boss or not".

However, they have now won 11 of their last 12 games there, drawing the other, and the aggregate score across those 12 contests is 36-5.

"We tried to change the game with two strikers".

But the way in which reigning Premier League champions Chelsea meekly surrendered to Pep Guardiola's side on Sunday did catch the eye.

They remain alive in this season's competition but must negotiate a way past Barcelona at the Nou Camp next week to reach the quarter-finals.

About the game against City, the Frenchman added, "It is not a good weekend for us because our opponents in the Champions League race won". We always hear it is quite impressive, but at the end it is our style.

"I always say other teams have to pay great attention to City.it's very hard to find a weakness in this team". We need to keep the focus on this and win the next game and go step by step. We had to try and nullify them.

"If I remember well, a few days ago, when Arsenal played against them, their effort was criticised because they conceded three goals in 30 minutes".

Hazard, whose miserable afternoon was ended when he was substituted in the 89th minute, said: "When you leave the pitch you have the impression that you've ran, but that you haven't played a game of football".
