It feels like it was just yesterday when the Pokemon Go game launched with a social media explosion, bringing that world to life in ours via a clever AR experience. It is also a location-based game, albeit one where players will find virtual dinosaurs roaming around the virtual landscape instead of Pokemon.

Then that's where the fun stuff really starts as you can eventually have your dinosaurs fight other players' dinosaurs in matches that will probably resemble, you guessed it, Pokemon.

This new Jurassic Park-inspired game app is named after the upcoming addition to the dinosaurs-eating-people franchise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom that will be released on June 22, 2018.

More AR games are also in the works, including Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (from the makers of Pokémon Go) and Ghostbusters World.

Mobile game Pokémon Go became an instant hit in mid 2016 thanks largely to its use of augmented reality (AR). Universal Studios and Montreal-based video game company Ludia have teamed up to create Jurassic World Alive.

It's been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Track these magnificent animals with a drone and collect DNA samples needed to level up and create hybrids in your Lab.

Ludia is the flawless company to develop a Jurassic game for iOS and Android.

"Definitely, the element of discovery will be present, but we wanted to be a little more flexible about the possibility of participating without leaving home", explained Chris Heatherly, Executive Vice President of Universal's games division. But while augmented reality appears to be here to stay, will any of these games be able to approach Pokemon's ridiculous download numbers?

In "Jurassic World Alive", players collect a variety of dinosaurs while exploring their own neighborhoods and cities around the world.
