Kohima: Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) chief Neiphiu Rio on Sunday said he is confident of forming the government in Nagaland and would request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the swearing-in ceremony which is likely to be held on 7 or 8 March.

The Governor instructed the State NPP to submit a letter of support signed by their National President and also the support signatures of both the MLAs at the earliest. BJP leader and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the BJP can not go back to Naga People's Front (NPF).

"After a meeting with Mr Rio, Mr Sarma told reporters that his party was no longer in alliance with the NPF that had been in power in the state since 2008". He said there was no question of the BJP going back to the NPF.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party leader Neiphiu Rio and senior BJP leader Hemanta Biswa Sarma today met and discussed the formation of new government. The outgoing chief minister then went on to add that the way electorate in Nagaland has given 26 seats to the NPF, "is a factor that has to be taken into account in all political processes including those of development and peace in Nagaland". NDPP chief and former chief minister Neiphiu Rio has already been declared uncontested from Northern Angamai-II seat.

Stating that the party is very new in Nagaland, the NPP leader said "We are at least that we managed to win 2 seats in the state considering the fact that NPP is still very new here".

The NPF had also claimed that it was in discussions with the BJP. N.R. Zeliang is the brother of chief minister T.R. Zeliang. On Tuesday, NPP's Nagaland president Ato Yepthomi submitted a letter of support of his two MLAs to the governor.
