Dolly Parton celebrates International Women's Day 2018

To mark International Women's Day on March 8, the National Education Union has challenged the government to address the fact that while teaching is a predominantly female job, women teachers are still paid less on average than men, on top of the burdens of unpaid overtime and the public sector pay cap.

But International Women's Day also calls us to celebrate-and to advance-the leadership of women in the fight for a better world. So whether you honor today by wearing red or purple, supporting women-owned businesses, giving flowers to a female friend or hashtagging the heck out of your social media feeds, you'll be part of an global movement pushing for equality for women everywhere.

"Under the four pillars of our CSR program namely: Workplace, Marketplace, Community and Environment, we continue to seek ways to celebrate women and play our part in closing the gender gap".

The Exchange also joined other stock exchanges around the world that rang the bell for gender equality to raise awareness on the importance of gender equality to capital markets.

"Around the world, women and girls are calling out the abusive behaviour and discriminatory attitudes they face everywhere and all the time".

The Bachelorette's Georgia Love took the opportunity to post about the one woman who inspires her the most - her late mum.

Why, for instance, were Womens's Day event yesterday organised by women and had majority women attendees?

Pennsylvania also is expanding a "warm-handoff" program that strives to steer overdose survivors into treatment. In 16 states hard-hit by the opioid epidemic , ER visits from overdoses rose 35 percent during that time.

Today women should have the right to live free from violence and harm, but still a rural girl is twice as likely to be married as a child than her urban counterpart in parts of the world.

"And we can't do that without good men by our sides!"

There is no silver bullet, and progress can only be made through change and continuous hard work, making this year's theme of #PressForProgress more adept than ever.

Today is also a day for stakeholders to do what we can, as an institution, as an association, as a private entity or as an individual, towards the attainment of true gender equality.

Women's representation, Guterres said, in national parliaments stands, on average, at less than one quarter, and in boardrooms, it is even lower. The recent case of a six year-old girl who was raped, but did not receive the justice she was looking for shows that we still have a long way to access justice.

Hence, beyond today's celebrations there must be greater effort to turn the tide.

To close the day a raffle draw was held with gifts from the event sponsors, Olori Cosmetics, Zaron Cosmetics Limited, Shredder Gang, A Thousand Reasons Confectionaries, Bodyline Fitness & Gym Limited, Kinabuti, ShugaPlum Concepts.
