Almost all Wiregrass counties experienced an increase of 0.7 or 0.8 percent in unemployment rates in January, according to figures the Alabama Department of Labor released Monday.

The recalculations showed for the fourth consecutive year that the jobless rate wasn't quite as improved as initially thought for much of 2017.

Maryland's January unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, also unchanged from December, but down from 4.3 percent a year earlier.

With the exception of October 2014, when it was equal to the national rate, the state's unemployment rate has been below the US rate for more than four years. Both have stayed in place since then.

A year ago, Florida's unemployment rate stood at 4.6 percent, with 461,000 people listed as out of work. Manufacturing was up, as well, by 3.1 percent.

Though the total unemployment level in SC rose by 2,299 people from December to January, Buoyea says the figure is still within the "steady range" expected by the state.

Maryland's low unemployment should lead to wage growth and improved.

Florida's housing market also remains strong as median home prices rose $20,000 across the state in the previous year. The leisure and hospitality sector saw the second-largest numeric growth, for an increase of 1,300 jobs or 1.4 percent.

The information industry lost 1,800 jobs while retail trade shed 1,600 jobs.

Some economists say much of North Carolina's economic recovery has come from piggybacking on the USA recovery, or that the biggest factor in the labor force increase has been people moving into the state - particularly Charlotte and the Triangle - in hopes of finding work.

"The number of nonfarm jobs in the state changed little from last month", said Senior Labor Economist, Tyler Tenbrink. Those numbers are based on the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly household survey.
