The West Region final might be going down to the wire.

The Florida State University men's basketball team has been eliminated from the NCAA tournament, falling 58-54 to the Michigan Wolverines in a game that came down to a nail-biter in its final seconds.

Matthews scored 10 points for U-M, Abdur-Rahkman six, but MI had eight turnovers in the first half to only three assists.

Maybe it's John Beilein's version of the Texas Two-Step. The Seminoles would not score again in the half.

Phil Cofer scored 16 to lead Florida State. After making almost 62 percent of their shots against the Aggies, the Wolverines are only 7 for 21 against the Seminoles.

Michigan's Charles Matthews has either been living under a rock for the past week, or has been intently locked in on the Wolverines' NCAA Tournament run.

I guess it's fitting that they were the game they finally won comfortably.

It's simply inexplicable that Florida State didn't foul.

The Wolverines are a good team, there is no doubt, but they have Moe Wagner in the middle who can run hot and cold and will struggle defensively against Cameron Krutwig, and beyond that they very much run a four-out system like the Ramblers do.

Florida State froze, there's no other way to put it. It's the second trip in six years for the Wolverines to the national semifinals.

Hamilton would get a $275,000 bonus if Florida State defeats MI. Michigan's offense was by no means prolific, but on a night when they themselves shot 38.8 percent, that was more than enough to win with their defensive effort. If you're going to foul somebody, he's the guy to foul, but it remains that odds were in favor of Simpson making a free throw and putting MI up by four, which he did. Kansas State was denied its attempt to return to the Final Four for the first time since 1964. Offensively, Loyola-Chicago has been led by Clayton Custer (13.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.5 spg), Donte Ingram (11.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.5 apg), Marques Townes (11.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Cameron Krutwig (10.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.8 apg).

But this isn't any ordinary 11 seed.

Loyola knocked off No. 3 seed Tennessee 63-62 in the second round, then eliminated the seventh-seeded Wolf Pack 69-68 to reach the Elite Eight. That game is set for next Saturday night. The Ramblers are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 40.0 shooting from beyond the arc. The teams combined to shoot just 35-of-100 from the field, as length and athleticism bothered each roster for long stretches. The Ramblers haven't made it back to another Final Four. "I don't know who Sister Jean is, no disrespect". Schools from non-power conferences don't often get this far. Matthews helped kep the Wolverines a step ahead with eight early points, including a three-point play on a jumper that made it 15-10.

Time to punch the first two tickets to the Final Four. The champions of the Big Ten Tournament and the No. 3 seed in the West region, MI took down a Cinderella hopeful in the No. 9 Florida State Seminoles, 58-54. The victor will play for the national championship.
