Insomniac's Spider-Man releases September 7 on PS4 with two special editions

Insomniac announced the game back in 2016 at E3 and confirmed that this game is a standalone experience not linked to any of the movies.

Read on to find out everything you need to know about Spidey's return to Sony's console, including its just announced release date.

The announcement comes as part of the magazine's big cover story on Spidey's latest virtual exploits. We also dive deep into the web-swinging controls, combat complexity, and surprisingly deep upgrade paths, which include suit crafting. The trailer showed off plenty of gameplay and it looks like this is the closest we'll get to actually stepping into the suit of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Story wise, the game is mostly sticking to the same Marvel characters and there won't be any original additions for the game. The teaser features a fully-realised NY complete with combat footage and the first real look of the project's swing mechanic.

Trump tweets condolences in Marine chopper crash
The Marine Corps said it would withhold the identities of the deceased for 24 hours until next-of-kin notifications were complete. The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was on a routine training mission when it crashed.

The date wasn't the only thing mentioned, though. The Collector's Edition includes all of the digital content from the Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as a Steelbook case featuring white spider, Mini Artbook from Titan Books, and a Marvel's Spider-Man statue by Gentle Giant. The digital deluxe edition will include the full game along with three new chapters, new villains, more costumes and new characters. Not only that, but the two companies also revealed the various special editions that will be available at release. Retailing at $149.99, it features all of the content of the Digital Deluxe version plus some physical goodies. Game Informer also reveals they'll be a fast travel system, a photo mode, and no microtransactions.

With much still unknown, it looks like Insomniac wants to keep us guessing until the very end.

What is encouraging about the release date is that it will not interfere with the release of Red Dead Redemption.
