Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is now exclusive to iOS devices and has a to-be-determined release date.

The lack of a new game has been disappointing to longtime fans of the Castlevania series, but it appears there could be some hopeful news on the horizon.

Konami have announced a new Castlevania title coming to the iOS platform in Japan. Other franchise regulars such as Simon Belmont, Alucard, Charlotte, Shanoa, and Maria will also be making appearances, as well as music from previous entries.

The game "invites" players to bring in their friends for either four player co-op or competitive sessions, against both large and small enemies.

First it was Metal Gear, and now Konami have set their sights on the Castlevania franchise. It seemed like eternal peace had come to the world.

The game's story is set in a future where Dracula seems to have been completely destroyed, and peace is nearly upon the land. The extent of their involvement in the game isn't clear at this time, but it's likely that some of them will factor into the story while others will be there as side characters.

The catch is that the game is for iOS, with an official website that opened today.

The protagonist of the game is Genya Arikado, who is described as "A mysterious character who belongs to a top-secret Japanese government agency".

The record-breaking Kickstarter game is due out this year, although not much as been heard of it in a while and it doesn't have a specific release date. Along with his assistant Lucy, a female researcher and magician, Arikado is gunning to make sure Dracula doesn't make his big return.
